I am a 54-years-young Cornishman entering my third age with a passion I’ve not felt in a long time. Over the last three months I have lost 22 pounds of old man fat (as I call it) with a goal to attend my first ever Natural Bodybuilding show in August 2020.
I have always been active, with football, rugby, cycling etc…, and have had previous sporting success as a powerlifter (Southwest Regional Champion on two occasions), but then pretty much gave all that up to focus on my son’s sport of BMX Racing, becoming a British Cycling Qualified Coach at Club and Regional level along the way: I never saw that coming!
However, I have always been unhappy with how I look physically. Then a big change came two years ago, when I was diagnosed with having scarring on the right frontal lobe of my brain. For well over 10 years I had been suffering with episodes (headaches, slurred speech, fainting etc...). Although not life threatening, I found myself slipping into a very dark place and began to shut myself away.
I am currently an IT Tutor with the local College and in my 27-year career have been privileged to have supported many students, young and old, in achieving an IT qualification. I am forever encouraging them with a can-do attitude – “I Can, I Will”. I always use myself as an example of what can be achieved considering that I left school with an average education, middle grade CSEs and 1 ‘O’ level in Art, to becoming the lead IT Tutor for the Business Department for the College. This ‘can do’ attitude and with the support of my partner and my son is now helping me out of that dark place with renewed motivation, I hope to achieve my goals. I always give support and guidance where I can in order to inspire others to achieve.
